Who this policy is from

Guardbrook runs guardbrook.com from 5955 Alpha Rd, Suite 408, Dallas, TX 75240. Guardbrook is a publisher of information about car insurance prices. It is not an insurance company, agency or broker. Questions about this policy go to [email protected] or the contact form.

This policy covers guardbrook.com and the emails Guardbrook sends. Once a licensed insurance agent or insurer receives your request, what it does with your information is governed by its own privacy policy.

What you can do without telling us anything

You can read every page and use every calculator without giving a name or an email address. The calculators run in your browser. The numbers you type into them stay there unless you continue to the rate-shopping request form, as described below. The site sets no analytics or advertising cookies. See the cookie notice for the little that is stored in your browser.

What we collect, form by form

Rate-shopping request

The request form at /shop-my-rate, also shown at the end of many articles and calculators, has two steps.

Step 1 asks about the car and the policy you want:

  • the ZIP code where the car is kept;
  • how many cars and how many drivers the policy would cover (one, two, or three or more);
  • whether you are insured now, your coverage has lapsed, or this would be your first policy;
  • your driving record over the last three years: clean, a ticket, an accident, a DUI or suspended license, or several of these;
  • the coverage you want: the state minimum, higher liability limits or full coverage;
  • your current yearly premium, if you choose to enter it.

Step 2 asks how to reach you: first and last name, phone number and email address, and a consent checkbox. The box is unchecked until you check it. Its text says that Guardbrook and licensed insurance agents and insurers working with Guardbrook may contact you about quotes by call, text and email, including with an automatic telephone dialing system or an artificial or prerecorded voice (including an AI-generated voice); that consent is not a condition of buying anything; that message and data rates may apply; and that you can reply STOP to end texts.

If you reach the form from a calculator, the request may include three figures the calculator showed you: the premium you entered, the saving it found and its headline result.

When the request arrives, our server adds:

  • the state, worked out from your ZIP code;
  • the time the request was received;
  • your IP address;
  • the address of the page you sent it from;
  • the version of the consent text you saw;
  • whether your browser sent a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If it did, the request is marked “do not sell or share further”.

Contact form

The contact form asks for your name, email address, a topic and your message, plus a checkbox confirming you understand that Guardbrook gives general information and cannot advise you on your own policy. The server adds the time, your IP address and the page address.

Newsletter

The newsletter sign-up asks for your first name, your email address and your consent to receive the emails. The server records the version of the consent text, the time, your IP address and the page address.

Emails we send you

Links in Guardbrook’s emails may end with a short campaign code after a “#” sign. When you open such a link, a script on the page reads the code, removes it from the address bar and sends a short note to the site’s own /collect address. Our server adds your IP address and browser type (user agent) and forwards the note to our email service provider, so it can see that the email was opened on the site. If a link carries no such code, nothing is sent. No cookie is used.

Some links in our emails point to a short path on guardbrook.com. When you open one, our server passes your IP address and browser headers to the email service provider, which records the click and tells the server which page to open for you. No cookie is used here either.

Bot check and hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, so Cloudflare processes your IP address and browser information to deliver pages and protect the site. Pages with a form use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated programs. Turnstile looks at signals from your browser and may store what it needs to work.

Why we use it

  • To pass your rate-shopping request to licensed insurance agents and insurers so they can contact you with quotes, as you asked.
  • To keep a record of your consent: what text you agreed to, when and from where.
  • To answer your contact messages, including corrections and privacy requests.
  • To send the newsletter you signed up for and see whether our emails are opened and clicked.
  • To keep the forms free of spam and abuse.
  • To meet legal obligations and to defend legal claims.

We do not use your information to show you ads, and we do not build advertising profiles.

Who receives it

  • Licensed insurance agents and insurers working with Guardbrook receive your rate-shopping request, including the details from both steps and the records the server added. They may pay Guardbrook for it. Contact messages and newsletter sign-ups are not passed to them.
  • Web3Forms, a form-to-email service, delivers each form submission to Guardbrook’s inbox.
  • Cloudflare hosts the site and runs the Turnstile bot check.
  • Our email service provider sends Guardbrook’s emails and receives the open and click reports described above.
  • Authorities or other parties when the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone’s safety.

Selling and sharing

Under some state privacy laws, passing a rate-shopping request to agents and insurers who pay for it may count as a “sale” of personal information. We pass a request on only because you asked us to, by sending the form with the consent box checked. We do not sell or share information from the contact form, the newsletter or the email reports. We do not share personal information for targeted advertising.

Your privacy choices

Your rights under state privacy laws

California and a growing number of other states, Texas among them, give residents rights over their personal information. Depending on where you live, you may ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct information that is wrong;
  • delete your information;
  • stop selling or sharing your information, and stop using it for targeted advertising or profiling (we do neither of the last two).

We give these choices to every visitor, wherever you live. We will not charge you more or treat you differently for using them.

How to opt out of sale or sharing

  • Before you send a request: turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser. Guardbrook honors it. Your request still goes to the agents and insurers you asked to hear from, but it is marked “do not sell or share further”.
  • After you sent a request: email [email protected] with the subject “Do not sell or share” and the email address or phone number you used. We will not pass your request to anyone else and will tell the agents and insurers that received it about your choice.

How to ask for access, correction or deletion

Email [email protected] or use the contact form with the topic “My request”. Tell us what you want and give the name, email address and phone number you used, so we can find your records and confirm the request comes from you. An authorized agent may act for you with your signed permission. We answer within the time your state’s law sets, which is 45 days under most of these laws. If we turn down your request, we will say why, and you can appeal by replying to our answer.

Deleting your information from Guardbrook’s records does not delete the copy an agent or insurer already received. We will forward your request to them, and you can also ask them directly.

How to stop calls, texts and emails

  • Texts: reply STOP to any text about your request.
  • Calls: tell the caller to stop calling you.
  • Anything about your request: email [email protected] or use the contact form and say you want no more contact. We forward your opt-out to every agent and insurer that received your request.
  • Newsletter: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to us.

Withdrawing consent does not undo a quote or a policy you already have with an insurer. Contact the insurer for that.

Children

Guardbrook is written for adults who buy car insurance. It is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

How long we keep it

  • Rate-shopping requests, with their consent records: 5 years from the date received.
  • Contact messages: 2 years.
  • Newsletter sign-ups: as long as you stay subscribed.

We may keep information longer when the law requires it or to settle a dispute. A record of an opt-out is kept as long as we need it to honor your choice.

Security

Forms are sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so we cannot promise that nothing will ever go wrong. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how we use information you already gave us, we will ask for your consent first where the law requires it.
